About MidiVault

MidiVault is a free, searchable library of MIDI files. Type a title or artist, hit play, and listen right in your browser — no plugins, no account, and no software to install. If you like what you hear, the original .mid file is one click away.

How playback works

A MIDI file doesn't contain any recorded audio — it's closer to sheet music than a song file: a list of notes, timings, and instrument assignments. When you press play, your browser reads that instruction list and renders it live using sampled instrument sounds, entirely on your device. That's why the same file can sound slightly different across players: the notes are fixed, but the instrument doing the playing isn't.

How the library is built

Files are indexed automatically as they're added, extracting a title and artist from the filename and reading the track's duration directly from the MIDI data. We don't edit or re-encode the files themselves — what you download is exactly what was indexed.
